NYC OR BUST
Sep3
I have made the most significant decision of this summer. I WILL be going to New York City for a 5 day trip. I had previously mentioned this a few weeks ago. I definitely need this time away from work and school and just take life by the horns and go for it. I am one that has not yet seen the Big Apple, or many other places around the United States or the world. This is one of the few chances that I will get to travel for sometime as school will start, and the availability of free time next summer is becoming less.
My mom doesn’t want me to go, but I can’t listen to her this time around. I’m sorry about that. I have to go and take a break from it all. I know I’ll probably be tired for the first days of school because of this, but that doesn’t matter. The argument that you are fronting just doesn’t make logical sense to me. Sorry mom.
I want to absorb the culture that is New York, see the icon of this country that symbolizes freedom, the financial district, experience the subway, and most of all, experience life that’s not confined to an office, or a desk, or my textbooks because that’s what I’ll see for the next 24 months until I graduate from OSU. The first 9 months will be working my ass off for senior year, and senior design. THe following 6 will be on my next MECOP internship. The next three months after that, finishing up my Computer Engineering degree. And well… the remaining time will be crammed for finishing my general core classes and studying for the Fundamentals of Engineering and Professional Engineering exams. After that, the ‘real’ world hits.
I cannot pass up this opportunity. I will not have it any other way. The flight has been booked as well as a place to stay. I am making this traveling experience reality.
My American Airlines flight leaves for New York Monday September 20th at 11:45 PM from PDX. I will arrive back in Portland Saturday September 25th at 10:09 PM. I will be staying at The Seafarers International Hostel for the entire time.
EDIT: on second pass, things have changed. I’m going to NYC, staying at the Gershwin Hotel. My friend Simon is going too. That rocks :-p
I’ll be bringing back many pictures of my experience. I hope to share them with all of you. I can’t wait!
